What to Expect

We offer traditional Thai massage in a traditional setting.

As an overview of what to expect when you visit Lamai, we offer the following:

At Lamai Thai Massage and Yoga Supplies, you will be treated like one of our long-standing customers, even if it's your first visit.

You'll be warmly greeted as you enter our shop, and our manager will explain the process step by step.

You'll be asked how long of a session you would like. You will also be asked if this is your first visit. Many 'first time' customers appreciate being told what they can expect during their massage: while it is sometimes referred to as 'passive yoga', that doesn't mean that you won't feel the results! Also, knowing it's the customer's first time will encourage the therapist to look for your response at each stage of the massage. Your comments will help the therapist modify their approach. A very important aspect of the Thai massage process (and one often overlooked) is the communication between the therapist and the customer: what's vigorous to one person is not to someone else, and what you may find subtle others may feel is slight. At Lamai we want you to enjoy all the health-related benefits available through Thai massage.

If you have a localized source of pain or discomfort, tell us upfront. The therapist will devote more time in this area.

After speaking to the manager, you'll be assigned a 'station' for your massage.

You'll be given appropriately loose fitting 'massage clothes'. We've brought these pants and shirts from Thailand for our customers to use. (For those interested, they are offered for sale at the front desk).

Sometimes referred to as Thai Fishermen Pants, these wrap-around trousers are still worn by working men and women alike in Thailand, though more commonly in rural areas than in Bangkok.

Once you have changed clothes, whether in the nearby restroom or the privacy of your assigned 'station', you will be ready for your massage. Enjoy!

We have included this short movie as a thumbnail depiction of the Thai massage you will experience.

Remember: there are many ways to pamper yourself. Thai massage is much more that that. It's a therapeutic form of preventative medicine.
