However, with pregnancy come many changes and challenges to the expectant mother. Weight gain, a displacement in your center of gravity (causing stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles and shoulders), and inflammation of the joints (edema) often caused by reduced circulation are just some of the discomforts facing expectant moms.
Thai massage therapy offers a non-medicated alternative in addressing these concerns.
Pregnant women have often received ambivalent responses from the health community regarding the safety and purpose of massage during pregnancy. Modern investigation and research (most notably by the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami and others) is proving that prenatal massage therapy can be a very instrumental ingredient in women’s prenatal care and should be given careful consideration.
Therapeutic massage has been used for centuries to improve overall health, reduce stress, and relieve muscle tension. Thai massage dates from the era of the Buddha, 2500 years ago, and is now gaining widespread popularity here in the West, not only as a preventative modality, but also to increase the comfort level (and lower the stress level) during pregnancy.

Women with the following conditions must bring a doctor’s consent prior to receiving a pre-natal Thai massage therapy session:
• High risk pregnancy
• Pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH)
• Preeclampsia
• Previous pre-term labor
• Experiencing severe swelling, high blood pressure, or sudden, severe headaches
• Gave birth within the last 12 months.
